MULP: Sceptre of the Sun Volume 1 and 2 by Matt Gibbs and Sara Dunkerton (Improper Books)

A riotous and action packed anthropomorphic mouse adventure amongst the pyramics? Time for MULP by Matt Gibbs and Sara Dunkerton...

We do love a bit of Egyptian adventure, and as huge fans of Garen Ewing's awesome Julius Chancer books - as well as being huge Tintin fans, we were both rather intrigued by MULP.

Setting itself up as a Mice-led Pulp adventure (hence the rather intriguing name) it takes Indiana Jones-style saturday matinee adventuring and the expeditions of Sir Howard Carter, replacing humans with a group of intelligent rodents involved in their own quest to decipher the riddle of the sands.

"Sceptre of the Sun" is the first volume in this adventure for Jack Redpath and Victoria (Vicky) Jones, two mice with a natural curiosity and deep interest in Egyptology.

Aided by their friends Cornelius Field, Sir Walter Harvest-Scott and his good lady wife Elisabeth Harvest-Scott, they soon pick up the trail of a mysterious stone tablet that may point to the secret location of the fabled Sceptre of the Sun.

A globetrotting adventure begins as evil forces gather, with their own designs on the sceptre and the mysterious artifact it will eventually lead to.

Full of fisticuffs, stunts and epic derring-do this is fast paced adventuring that's suitable for children of all ages. Volume 2 of MULP is also available early in March so keep an eye on the Improper Books website for more news (and there's also a free 12 page preview of the first volume to get your gnawing little mouse-like gnashers into!)

Charlotte's favourite bit: The mouse dig site (complete with gigantic human skull! Eeps!)

Daddy's favourite bit: Brilliant mouse-sized adventuring with fast paced storytelling and epic artwork, MULP is a great new series of adventures for kids.
