Professor McQuark and the Oojamaflip by Lou Treleaven and Julia Patton (Maverick Arts Publishing)

Glorious rhymes, groovy illustrations and a crazy but cool lady scientist? Oh I think we're going to like this one a lot...
"Professor McQuark and the Oojamaflip" should get you to sit up and take notice purely by the title, I mean how many times are you going to get a book with "Oojamaflip" on the cover?

New from Lou Treleaven and Julia Patton is this ace story about a very inventive lady who loves nothing better than to lock herself up in her workshop, inventing amazing new gadgets and labour saving devices to make everyone's lives a lot easier (a self-making bed sounds EXACTLY what Charlotte needs, oh and a self-tidying room!)

Professor McQuark busies herself preparing for the annual Science Expo in her home town, a chance for all mad scientists everywhere to gather together and show off their best and newest inventions. Square balloons? Now that's neat!

With a flash of inspiration, Professor McQuark comes up with a completely new idea ready for the show. It's called an "Oojamaflip" but there's a problem, this fantastic new machine is way too big to fit into the exhibition hall! Calamities!

Poor Professor McQuark must stand on the sidelines while others hoover up the inventing glories - but perhaps there's hope yet, as children soon find the Oojamaflip sitting outside - ready to wow the world!

Every kid (and most adults too) secretly want to be inventors so this book has huge appeal. It's beautifully written with rhymes that trickle off the tongue like butter, and some suitably crazy illustrations in a science-mad style. Absolutely brill!

Charlotte's best bit: When kids discover the Oojamaflip - but what does it DO? The clue is in the name!

Daddy's favourite bit: We love our science geek characters, and Professor McQuark is glorious! More stories featuring this lovable scatterbrained genius? Yes please!
